IFBC 2013 – Recap

IFBC 2013

Being a newbie in the food blogging community, I made the leap by attending IFBC in Seattle back in September. It was my 1st time attending a food blogger conference and my 2nd time visiting Seattle. I’ve heard of IFBC two years back and did not have the courage to sign up. I don’t know any food bloggers, and I certainly don’t want to be a loner! By setting my fears aside, I build up the courage to go. It was the BEST decision of my life, and I’m not exaggerating either. During my 5-day visit in Seattle, I’ve met my soulmate. Did I grab your attention? I bet I did! Ok that deserves a special post on its own and I promise I will share with my readers but let me get to my IFBC recap!

I help ease my nerves; I invited my younger sister with me to Seattle. She didn’t attend the conference, but it was nice to have her there as my support. I stayed an extra day before and after the conference so we can explore Seattle together.

The conference was held in the span of 2.5 days from September 20-22. Here’s the agenda jammed packed with events and break out sessions. I’ll share few highlights from the conference, and I highly encourage food bloggers of all levels to attend IFBC. Head over here to find more details for next year’s IFBC 2014 held in Seattle (again).

Keynote speaker: Dorie Greenspan

Dorie have written 10 cookbooks over the past 20 years, and she’s won 6 James Beard and IACP awards for them. Her two cookbooks, Around My French Table and Baking From My Homes to Yours, have created two online cooking/baking clubs, French Fridays and Tuesdays with Dorie, respectively. She’s lucky to have three kitchens as she commutes back and forth from New York City to Westbrook, Connecticut to Paris, France.

Live Food Blogging with Amazon.com Grocery

I sampled 15 specialty brands from Amazon Grocery, and each brand gave a their 3-minute short presentation about the product. During that time, we have the opportunity to hone our micro-blogging skills by tweeting or Instagramming. I totally failed to tweet or Instagram even one product! My wi-fi was super slow, and when you have a little over 300 bloggers using social media at the same time, it’s bound to cause cyber traffic!

A Taste of Seattle and Gourmet Fair

I sampled a variety of gourmet goods from producers and nibbled on cuisine prepared by some of Seattle’s best chefs and restaurants.
